Watercolor 3: Abstract, Summer 2026
This was the last class I took at MSCR with Stacy Hilton Klutzke.
Welcome! This is VERY MUCH a work in progress, as I've never done this before. Thanks for your patience. Let me know if you see something "off".
This was the last class I took at MSCR with Stacy Hilton Klutzke.
These exercises forced us to work fast, loose, and big (14" x 17"). We were given about twenty minutes for each painting.
This was an exercise in working fast, loose, and big. I like the colors in this and the movement in the sky.

Another exercise in fast & loose. The sky is a basic wet-on-wet wash with a little bit of lifting, but everything else is painted with the edge of a credit card or a bamboo skewer.

This was a cool little experiment, although the drops or alcohol didn't do what I thought they would.
This would have worked better (a) with less saturated washes, and (b) if I had had the patience to let it dry before putting the lines on top.
For this exercise, everyone brought in existing paintings we were willing to destroy (easy!). After cutting them into random shapes, the idea was too build a collage focusing mainly on the negative space. Middling success. I think the one on the left is more succesful, but I don't really like either of them.
