Welcome! This is VERY MUCH a work in progress, as I've never done this before. Thanks for your patience. Let me know if you see something "off".
What I love about watercolor is the range of moods it can create. It can be airy & ethereal, loose or detailed, abstract or realistic.
The challenge of watercolor for me is the number of variables involved.
In two-dimensional art, I try to remember to consider how the elements of design (line, shape, color, value, gradation, size, and texture) are used to address various principles of design (positive and negative space, contrast, emphasis, balance, pattern, movement & rhythm, and unity) to create the overall composition.
With drawing and acrylic painting, if I screw one of those up and it's not too major, I can fix it. Erase the line, paint over the yucky color. Watercolor is not that forgiving. Once it's on the paper, that's it. Minor tweaks are possible, but if you want to move that apple you just painted to the other side of the table, forget it. The transparency of watercolor - which is what makes it so cool - is just going to wag a finger and scoff.
